Vaultwarden
Vaultwarden is a password manager compatible with the Bitwarden apps and browser extensions.
Settings
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Hostname | The app's address |
| Allow open registration | Lets anyone who knows the address create an account. Off by default. |
| Require email verification on signups | New accounts must confirm their email address before signing in. On by default. |
First sign-in
Your account is created for you, for the email address of your Freepod account:
- After the app starts, you receive an invitation email from
vaultwarden@freepod.eu. - Open the link in the email. It is valid for 5 days.
- Choose a master password of at least 12 characters, and select Create account.
The master password cannot be recovered. If it is lost, the passwords stored in the vault are lost with it.
Invite other people from the web vault. If the invitation does not arrive, check your spam folder or contact support@freepod.eu.
Apps and browser extensions
Use the Bitwarden apps and browser extensions. When signing in, choose a self-hosted server and enter https://<hostname> as the server URL.
File access
SFTP shows Vaultwarden's data folder, read-only. Vault contents are encrypted; use Bitwarden's export feature for a usable copy of your passwords.
Email
Vaultwarden sends email, such as invitations and verification messages, from vaultwarden@freepod.eu. See Email.
