Get started

Freepod runs apps from its catalog, such as photo libraries, file storage and password managers, on hostnames of your own. You choose an app and a plan; Freepod installs, runs and updates it.

1. Create an account

  1. Go to freepod.eu and select Create account.
  2. Register with an email address and password, or with a Google account.
  3. If you registered with an email address, open the verification link Freepod sends you.

2. Choose your subdomain

After you sign in, the dashboard asks you to choose a subdomain, for example alice.freepod.eu. Your apps get addresses under it, such as photos.alice.freepod.eu.

  1. Enter a name: 2 to 63 lowercase letters, digits and hyphens, starting and ending with a letter or digit.
  2. Select Claim this name and confirm.

The subdomain cannot be changed or released later. Not now postpones the choice until you launch your first app. It is also available under Settings → Subdomain.

3. Launch an app

  1. Under Available apps on the dashboard, select an app.
  2. Select a plan.
  3. Fill in the settings. Hostname is the app's address, prefilled with the app's name (with a number appended if that is taken). Enter another name, such as photos, to use photos.alice.freepod.eu, or select Custom domain to use a domain you own. See Hostname and Custom domain.
  4. The first time, accept the Terms of Service.
  5. Select Launch. For a paid plan, you are sent to a payment page first.

The app appears under Your apps. Its status changes from provisioning to ready when it is running; this usually takes a few minutes.

4. Open the app

Select Open on the app's card. Most apps need a first-time setup, such as creating an admin account. The product guides describe it for each app.
